“When I Need A Miracle—Where Do I Start?

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Have faith in God. I assure you that you can say to this mountain, ‘May God lift you up and throw you into the sea,’ and your command will be obeyed. All that is required is that you really believe and do not doubt in your heart.” - Mark 11:22-23

This is a simple plan that I believe can stir faith in your heart. I believe this plan can also help anyone experience the wondrous working of God in their life. I believe we need to expect the miracles of God. This short article is being written to encourage you and to see the faith of God produced in your life.

1. Pray the promises of God—There are actually two things that need to be happening that come from that brief phrase. First is praying. There is something about praying that will spark the faith of God. In every life, there are plenty of things to pray about and seek God’s work. It is pray—not programs—that will heighten our awareness of God and begin to elevate faith. I believe it is also important to be honest with God and about ourselves. I also recommend looking for the promises of God—they are all over the Bible. I have a small book in my study simply called, The Promises of God. It is filled with scripture references about promises.

2. Ask for forgiveness—Listen to the words of the song, Cleanse Me: “Search me, O God, and know my heart today; Try me O Savior, know my thoughts I pray; see if there be some wicked way in me; cleanse me from every sin and set me free.” (The Hymnal, 438). That simple song is based on Psalm 139:23-24. We have to be serious about this and be open to the e examination of our lives.

3. Express your doubts—It is possible you might not know how to pray for your situation. It is OK to ask God. After all, God is on the throne and He is in charge! It is God—and Him alone—who can change your doubt into faith. “Now this is the confidence we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us (1 John 5:14).

4. Don’t be embarrassed of what you pray for in private—This is the moment between you and God. I have nothing to do with the church, your neighbors, and your friends—it is just you. Remember, God knows everything about you, including things you might not know about yourself. I assure you that you will not surprise God.

5. Allow faith to be built and to be exercised—Always remember we need the Word to build faith. This matter is not about our mood, but it is about faith. The Word of God is worthy to be believed, and we must act upon it. Remember, you also have a friend—a big Friend—He is the Holy Spirit who has promised us to guide us into truth and into faith. I recommend reading John 16-17.

6. Have perseverance—I several places, the Bible tells us troubles and trials are the things which produce perseverance—the ability to “stick to it.” I urge you to never give up—endure—believe God.

I would like to leave you with a promise to help you get started on your own personal miracle. It is from Psalm 31:15—“My times (future) is in Your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies, and from those who persecute me.”
